The Faith Formation Ministry is offering a new monthly group called Faithful Allies. Not only will this group help to answer the call of Matthew 25 to engage in more social justice issues, but it will also be modeled after Isaiah 1:17, “Learn to do right, seek justice, and defend the oppressed.” We will meet on the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. either in person or via Zoom depending on the activity scheduled. The first meeting on September 20 will offer Safe Zone training. Please RSVP to Aliyah Kennedy through the church office if you are interested in participating. Safe Zone trainings are opportunities to learn about LGBTQ+ identities, gender and sexuality, and to examine prejudice, assumptions and privilege. Attending a Safe Zone training helps those participating to have a deeper familiarity and comfort with vocabulary, inclusive practices, and privilege to help identify ways that our congregation can continue to be a safe and inclusive space.
Future Faithful Allies meetings may include activities such as poverty simulations, book studies, anti-bias training, first aid courses, or discussions on the refugee crisis, gun violence and congregational vitality.
