About the PC(USA)
Lakewood Presbyterian Church is affiliated with the 2.5 million member Presbyterian Church (USA), headquartered in Louisville, KY. The Presbyterian Church is a member of the World Council of Reformed Churches all of which base their theology on the teachings of the great Protestant Reformer, John Calvin of Geneva Switzerland. Calvin stressed that the church must always seek to reform itself since its members are themselves flawed and sinful and not always attentive to the will of God.

The Presbytery of the Western Reserve Because Calvin believed in the tendency of humans to sin, he was especially opposed to Bishops being invested with inordinate amounts of power. That is why Presbyterians emphasize the sharing of leadership, authority, and power among clergy and laity. Rather than Bishops who make decisions for the people, Presbyterians form regional groupings of churches called Presbyteries who bind themselves to each other and supervise one another’s ministries, including the calling and dismissal of pastors. Lakewood Presbyterian Church is a very active member and participant in the Presbytery of the Western Reserve which covers nine northeast Ohio counties.More information about the Presbytery of the Western Reserve can be found on their website: www.preswesres.org
