LPC will host a joint Ash Wednesday service with Bethany Presbyterian Church and Grace Presbyterian Church. The 7 p.m. service will be led by clergy from all three congregations and will feature beloved Lenten hymns such as “Just as I Am,” scripture readings and a brief message. It will also include Holy Communion and the traditional Litany of Repentance that commences Lent. Ashes will be available for imposition on hands or forehead for those who desire them. The tradition of having ashes rubbed on one’s body as a sign of sorrow and remorse began in ancient Judaism and was revived thousands of years later by the church as a ritual to begin the Season of Lent preparing believers for Holy Week and Easter.
